The famous chemist Justus von Liebig approved already in the nineteentwenties the healing effect of the saline swelling in Salzhausen. In 1824 the first baths’ were installed and the building of the spa hotel began. The village’s biggest area is taken up by the spa park. With its 54 ha it affects the semi-natural outer appearance. The spas are located in the middle of the park.
The small but fine state spa invites people to regain strength and take care of their health. In the past years the spa has especially improved in the field sports and fitness. The brine moving spa with its bordering sauna area is the centre of the health establishment. Besides the classical therapy offerings on the programme there are frequently courses in aquafitness.

The Asklepios Neurological Clinic has specialized on neurological rehabilitation. It has 190 beds, including 30 beds for urgent cases. Ten of them are for the earliest possible maintenance of apoplexia available. Besides the Stroke Unit, the other twenty beds are for neurological cases.
